Profile

Born and educated in England, Melanie Niesink is a native speaker of British English with a near native command of the Dutch language. With over twenty years experience as a freelance translator, she provides professional, readable translations in a wide range of fields. In accordance with the mother-tongue principle, almost all assignments concern translations from Dutch into English. Any assignments from English into Dutch are always revised by a native speaker of Dutch.

Regardless of the translation direction, the customer’s wishes, regarding existing glossaries, house style, etc., are always taken into account. In addition to which, consistency is safeguarded by the use of CAT tools such as Trados.

Translation capacity:
Approx. 2,000 words a day, depending on the subject and degree of difficulty and the format in which the source text is delivered.

Rates

While our rates are already highly competitive, and we seldom apply a surcharge for rush jobs and/or weekend/evening work, we do offer discounts for large assignments: 10% discount on assignments in excess of 10,000 source words. All prices quoted are exclusive of any applicable VAT.

Translations: A fixed word rate is applied for digital source texts. If the source text cannot be provided digitally, the rate quoted will be per target word, and the total price stated in the quote will be an estimate only.

Revision and editing: An hourly rate is applied for revision and editing, determined upon completion. The number of hours stated in the quote will be an estimate only.

Interpreting: Interpreting is also charged at an hourly rate, plus any applicable travel and/or accommodation expenses.

If you request a translation or other service, stating the type and size of the text and the required delivery time, you will receive a clear quote, without obligation, specifying:

• the type of project
• the number of source words*
• the word / hourly rate
• delivery time
• delivery format and total price (exclusive of any applicable VAT)
